Ubud, Bali October 8-12, 2013

The mountain village of Ubud is known to be the cultural heart of Bali. With it’s cooler temperatures and peaceful, happy, hindu lifestyle, it makes the perfect place for a taste of Asia without stress! The rice paddies, gardens and temples that make up the landscape are intensely colourful and photogenic, as are the local people with their daily lives steeped in ceremony. Local and international artists mingle. Life is village based, relaxed and largely rural with numerous artisans living among the hills. The food is cheap and delicious.

OUR PROGRAM
This workshop is for anyone with a passion for beautiful images. Ideally, you own a DSLR camera and a laptop computer which you can bring along. Each day will bring a balance of structured learning and creative exploration. We’ll first look at how to set up our cameras for ease of use AND creative control, then take them into the field to experiment, exploring a new and spectacular location each day, fully escorted by a local guide. We will deepen our knowledge of the local culture, flora and geology as we explore. We’ll return to our computers and delve into the wonderful world of possibilities in the digital darkroom. I specialise in the post production of images, so whether you want to get the best from your raw files (if you don’t know what a raw file is, you soon will!) or you would like to explore artistic interpretations of your images, such as converting to a beautiful creamy black and white, or cross-processing for a vintage look, this workshop is for you! We will edit and refine our images and each day we’ll select a few to go into our Bali book. Whether you are a novice or a more experienced photographer, these 4 days will be an unforgettable experience!

ACCOMODATION
Uma Ubud Hotel, is an intimate hotel offering exceptional style on Bali in Indonesia. It will be our base for our workshop classes and where we will work at our computers. 5 star accommodation is available at the hotel with a variety of room styles and prices.
There are also the 3.5 star Ananda Cottages which are walking distance from Uma where we will work. Bali‘s natural beauty remains a part of Ananda‘s grounds. In each cottage, the Balinese architecture, and décor, is of hotel standard, while all the modern conveniences expected by the discerning international traveller are here. All rooms are air-conditioned and have exotic garden bathrooms, conveying the essence of the tropics.

HOW TO GET THERE
You are required to organize your own journey to and from Bali (fly to Denpasar)

Arrival: Bali’s airport is at Denpasar, close to tourist beaches and shopping. Taxi, van or mini bus are available from the airport for varying prices. Time of travel to Ubud is approximately 1.5 hours.
There is a fixed price, pre paid Taxi Office outside the arrivals at the airport. This is well priced and no hassle.

You may need to change some money at the airport so take time to check the rates offered. Change a round figure and once changed, before walking away, check that you have the right amount even if they count it in front of you.

Passport: You will need a passport with a minimum of 6 months validity to enter Indonesia.
A 30 day visa will be issued on arrival for $25 US dollars.
