I’m happy to announce a new series of digital photography workshops, beginning with the popular Instant Gratification – iphoneography (2 sessions) and moving on to DSLR – Go Raw & Take Creative Control (3 sessions).

Photo workshops in Byron Bay with Jules Ober

A series of digital photography workshops with Jules Ober.

Are you an artist, business owner, journalist, traveler or just someone with a passion for photography who feels frustrated with the pictures you are getting from your camera? I can help you to get the results you want and need for images that will impress. The iphone takes great pictures – learn to get the best from it in the 1st two sessions. Then, for the slightly more technically minded, move on to the final 3 sessions to understand your DSLR camera and discover the digital darkroom.

Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions.

Saturday 25th of October,  2pm – 5pm
1. Instant Gratification Part One – exploring iphoneography
Take your iphoneography to the next level. Get the most from your iphone camera. Be inspired by the flood of creativity happening through sharing apps such as Instagram and learn how to join in. Learn about using filters, image adjustments and layering. As a visual person, I find this is the most fun you can have on social media! All you need for this workshop is your iphone or ipad.

Saturday 1st of November,  2pm – 5pm
2. Instant Gratification Part Two – exploring iphoneography
After a week of exploring the possibilities offered up in part one, we head deeper into the world of photo editing apps which will greatly expand the creative field. All you need for this workshop is your iphone or ipad.

$85 per session – pay as you go – or $390 paid in advance for all 5 sessions (see below). Bookings essential. Please email me with the details of which class(es) you’d like to attend and I will send you an invoice, or call 02 66854385 to talk to me if you have a question.

3. Go Raw! – Demystifying your Digital SLR Camera and taking Creative Control
For those who are serious about photography… You’ll need a DSLR camera and (preferably) a laptop computer.

Get your head around all those pesky buttons. Set-up your camera for ease of use and full creative control. Find out why you’ll love RAW format. What is a digital image? – it’s a myriad of creative possibilities and you can begin to make the most of it when you’ve understood a few simple principles.

This class will be a combination of lecture, demos, and practical exercises and is for anyone who feels a little intimidated by their digital camera and would like to rocket their photography to the next level.

Unless you are already happily shooting in RAW format, it’d be best to do this class first before moving on to learn about the Digital Darkroom over the following weeks. These are the first steps towards a stress-free digital workflow where your images are not only gorgeous, but well organised and ready to put out to the world.

Saturday 15th of November,  2pm – 5pm
4. Lightroom – the Digital Darkroom – part one
* Before this class I’ll send you a link to download a 30 day free trial of Lightroom *
Post production brings out the best in your images. Making the move to shoot in RAW format and work with Adobe Lightroom (and don’t worry – it’s not super expensive like Photoshop!) means that you will quickly take your photographic images to a new level. And your pics will be better organised!

In this first session we will learn about importing images from your memory card or hard drive, organising images into collections, editing images and then working on them to make them sing. You will be amazed by what you see! We’ll learn how to export images and email them to friends. WARNING: Image editing is addictive!

Saturday 22nd of November,  2pm – 5pm
5. Lightroom – The Digital Darkroom – part two
In this session we’ll go deeper into the Lightroom toolbox. We’ll look at presets for vintage split tones, convert to black & white, dreamy pastels, crushed blacks and turn day into night. Whether for business or pleasure, the digital darkroom is where you will learn to bring out the emotion in your images.

We’ll then have an introductory look at the different ways you can show off your images through slideshows, web galleries, books and prints.

Classes are held in Suffolk Park between 2 and 5pm Saturday afternoons. We will study, work and play indoors and out. Afternoon tea is included. Bring your camera and laptop (if you have one).

$85 per session – pay as you go – or $390 paid in advance for all 5 sessions. Bookings essential. Please email me with the details of which class(es) you’d like to attend and I will send you an invoice, or call 02 66854385 to talk to me if you have a question.
